Why am I seeing an "OAuth App Blocked" error?

Overview

If you see an error like:

  • "OAuth App Blocked"
  • "OAuth Error"
  • "OAUTH_APPROVAL_ERROR_GENERIC"

…it means that UserGems doesn’t have access to connect with your Salesforce account and there are a few extra steps necessary from your Salsforce Administrator or Operations Team.

Resolution

Salesforce Admins can resolve this error in Salesforce by checking the following:

1. Confirm UserGems is installed as a connected app

In Salesforce, navigate to Setup → Apps → Connected Apps → Connected Apps OAuth Usage → UserGems → Install

In the Connected Apps list, UserGems might be listed alphabetically OR at the VERY BOTTOM of the list

2. Configure user access

Once UserGems is installed, click Manage App Policies and ensure Permitted Users is set to All users may self-authorize (default)

3. Re-Connect in UserGems using the signup page
